Installation & Setup

Unpack and inspect all parts. Place on a clean, dry, level surface near a power outlet.

  1. Rinse Components: Wash the carafe, filter basket, and water reservoir with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly.
  2. Install Charcoal Filter: Insert the charcoal water filter into the holder in the water reservoir. Soak filter completely for 15 minutes before first use.
  3. Insert Permanent Filter: Place the permanent gold-tone filter into the filter basket.
  4. Fill Water Reservoir: Add fresh, cold water to the desired level (up to 12 cups).
  5. Plug In: Connect the power cord to a 120V AC outlet.

WARNING! Do not immerse the base, cord, or plug in water or other liquids. Ensure the unit is on a stable, heat-resistant surface.

First-Time Use

Before brewing coffee, perform a cleaning brew cycle to remove any manufacturing residues.

  1. Ensure the carafe is empty and correctly positioned on the warming plate.
  2. Fill the water reservoir with fresh water up to the 12-cup mark.
  3. Press the POWER button to turn the unit on. The LCD will illuminate.
  4. Press and hold the CLEAN button for 3 seconds. The CLEAN light will blink.
  5. Press the BREW button to start the cleaning cycle. The unit will run water through the system without grinding.
  6. Discard the water from the carafe after the cycle is complete. The machine is now ready for use.

CAUTION! The carafe and brewed coffee will be hot. Use handles and avoid steam.

LCD Display: Shows current time, programming status, "Add Water" or "Add Beans" alerts, and clean indicator.

Grind Selector Dial: Located on the side of the bean hopper. Turn to select grind size from 1 (finest) to 18 (coarsest).

Menu Functions: Use PROGRAM, HOUR, and MIN to set the clock and program the automatic brew time. Use BREW STRENGTH to select coffee intensity. Use GRIND selector to choose between using pre-ground coffee (Off) or grinding whole beans (Auto).

Grinding & Brewing

For optimal freshness, the machine grinds whole beans immediately before brewing.

  1. Prepare: Fill the bean hopper with whole coffee beans. Fill the water reservoir.
  2. Select Grind: Turn the Grind Selector Dial to your preferred setting (e.g., medium: 8-10).
  3. Set Strength: Press BREW STRENGTH to toggle between REGULAR and BOLD.
  4. Set Grind Mode: Ensure the GRIND selector is set to AUTO (light on). Set to OFF only if using pre-ground coffee.
  5. Brew: Place the empty carafe on the warming plate. Press the BREW/PAUSE button to start the cycle. The grinder will activate first, then brewing will begin.
  6. Pause & Serve: Press BREW/PAUSE during brewing to temporarily pause the flow and pour a cup.

Tip: Use 1 level tablespoon of whole beans per cup (5.7 oz) as a starting point. Adjust to taste.

Programming

To set the machine to grind and brew automatically at a specific time.

  1. Set Clock: Press and hold CLOCK. Press HOUR and MIN to set the current time. Press CLOCK again to confirm.
  2. Set Auto Brew Time: Press PROGRAM. The PROGRAM light will blink. Use HOUR and MIN to set the desired brew time. Press PROGRAM again to confirm.
  3. Prepare Machine: Ensure the bean hopper has beans, the water reservoir is full, the carafe is in place, and the GRIND selector is set to AUTO.
  4. Activate: The machine will now automatically grind and brew at the set time. The word "PROGRAM" will appear on the LCD when set.
  5. To Cancel: Press and hold PROGRAM for 3 seconds until the PROGRAM light turns off.

Note: The auto shut-off timer (0-4 Hr) is independent and controls how long the unit stays on after brewing is complete.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Regular cleaning ensures best performance and longevity.

Daily: Discard grounds from the filter basket. Rinse the permanent filter, filter basket, and carafe with warm water.

Weekly/As Needed:

  1. Decalcify: Run a vinegar solution (1 part white vinegar to 2 parts water) through a brew cycle, followed by 2-3 cycles of clear water to rinse. Do this every 2-3 months or as needed if in a hard water area.
  2. Clean Grinder Burrs: Unplug the unit. Remove the bean hopper. Use the provided cleaning brush to remove coffee oils and residue from the burrs and hopper.
  3. Clean Exterior: Wipe the housing with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners.

CAUTION! Never immerse the base unit, cord, or plug in water. Unplug before cleaning any part other than the removable carafe and filter basket.
