Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on clean, dry, level surface.

  1. Remove all packaging materials and tape.
  2. Wash carafe, filter basket, and charcoal filter holder with warm, soapy water.
  3. Insert charcoal water filter into holder and soak in water for 15 minutes.
  4. Place filter holder into water reservoir.
  5. Plug into 120V AC outlet.

WARNING! Do not immerse base, cord, or plug in water. Keep away from heat sources.

First-Time Setup

Before first use, run a brewing cycle with water only to clean interior.

  1. Fill water reservoir to 12-cup mark with fresh water.
  2. Place empty filter basket and carafe in position.
  3. Press POWER to turn on, then press BREW to start cycle.
  4. Discard water after cycle completes.
  5. Set clock: Hold CLOCK button and use HOUR/MIN to set time.

CAUTION! Ensure carafe is properly seated on warming plate before brewing.

Controls and Settings

Control Panel: POWER, CLOCK, PROGRAM, BREW, BREW STRENGTH, GRIND OFF, GRIND SELECTOR (1-18).

Functions: POWER turns unit on/off. CLOCK sets time. PROGRAM sets auto brew time. BREW starts manual brewing. BREW STRENGTH selects Regular or Bold. GRIND OFF bypasses grinder for pre-ground coffee. GRIND SELECTOR adjusts grind size (1=coarse, 18=fine).

LCD Display: Shows time, PROGRAM indicator, BREW STRENGTH indicator.

Brewing Coffee

For whole bean or pre-ground coffee.

  1. Fill water reservoir to desired cup level.
  2. Add whole beans to grinder hopper (up to ½ lb) or place pre-ground coffee in filter basket.
  3. Select grind size (if using whole beans).
  4. Select brew strength (Regular/Bold).
  5. Place carafe on warming plate.
  6. Press POWER, then BREW to start.
  7. Use PAUSE & SERVE feature to pour cup during brew cycle.

Tip: Use 1 tablespoon of ground coffee per 5 oz cup of water.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance.

  1. Daily: Wash carafe, filter basket, and lid with warm, soapy water.
  2. Monthly: Descale with vinegar solution (1 part vinegar to 2 parts water). Run brew cycle, then rinse with fresh water.
  3. Grinder cleaning: Unplug, wipe hopper with dry cloth. Do not immerse grinder.
  4. Charcoal filter: Replace every 60 days or after 60 uses.

CAUTION! Unplug before cleaning. Never use abrasive cleaners.

Programming

Set auto brew time for up to 24 hours in advance.

  1. Ensure clock is set correctly.
  2. Fill water reservoir and add coffee beans/grounds.
  3. Press PROGRAM, then use HOUR/MIN to set desired brew time.
  4. Press PROGRAM again to confirm. "PROGRAM" icon will illuminate.
  5. Coffee maker will automatically grind and brew at set time.

To cancel program: Press and hold PROGRAM for 3 seconds.
