Installation & Setup

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on clean, dry, level surface away from edges.

  1. Insert charcoal water filter: Soak filter in water for 15 minutes, then place in filter holder in water reservoir.
  2. Install gold-tone filter: Place permanent filter into filter basket.
  3. Attach carafe: Place empty carafe on warming plate.
  4. Plug into 120V AC outlet.

WARNING! Ensure hands are dry when handling plug. Keep cord away from heated surfaces.

First-Time Use

Before first brew, run a cleaning cycle with water only.

  1. Fill water reservoir to 12-cup line with fresh water.
  2. Ensure filter basket is empty and carafe is in place.
  3. Press POWER to turn on, then press BREW to start cycle.
  4. Discard water from carafe after cycle completes.
  5. Repeat if desired to remove any manufacturing residues.

CAUTION! Do not use without water in reservoir. Carafe is hot after brewing.

Controls and Settings

Control Panel: POWER, PROGRAM, HOUR, MIN, AUTO ON, AUTO OFF, CUP SELECTOR, GRIND CONTROL dial.

LCD Display: Shows current time, "Program" indicator, "Auto On" time, "Grind" status.

Grind Control: Turn dial to select grind size (Coarse to Fine). Cup Selector: Press for 1-4 cups for stronger brew. Auto On/Off: Set brew start time and auto shut-off delay. Program: Used to set clock and program timer.

Programming the Clock & Timer

To set clock and program auto brew:

  1. Press and hold PROGRAM until hour flashes.
  2. Press HOUR to set current hour (AM/PM).
  3. Press MIN to set minutes.
  4. Press PROGRAM to confirm.
  5. To set Auto On: Press AUTO ON, then HOUR/MIN to set brew time, press AUTO ON to confirm.
  6. To set Auto Off delay: Press AUTO OFF repeatedly to select 0-4 hours.

Tip: Ensure "Auto On" light is lit when programmed. "Program" light flashes during countdown.

Grinding and Brewing

For fresh ground coffee:

  1. Fill water reservoir to desired cup level.
  2. Add whole beans to grinder hopper (max ½ cup).
  3. Set GRIND CONTROL dial to desired coarseness.
  4. Place empty filter basket under grinder chute.
  5. Press POWER to turn on, then press GRIND (or it will auto-grind when brew starts if programmed).
  6. After grinding, place filter basket into brew head, ensure carafe is in place.
  7. Press BREW to start brewing cycle.
  8. Use BREW PAUSE to pour a cup early.

WARNING! Never remove filter basket during brew cycle. Do not touch hot surfaces.

Care & Cleaning

Unplug and cool completely before cleaning.

  1. Carafe and lid: Wash with warm soapy water; rinse.
  2. Filter basket and gold-tone filter: Remove and wash.
  3. Exterior: Wipe with damp cloth; do not immerse.
  4. Grinder: Wipe hopper with dry cloth; clean burrs with brush provided.
  5. Descale: Run vinegar solution monthly if in hard water area (1 part vinegar to 2 parts water), then run 2 cycles with clean water.

CAUTION! Do not use abrasive cleaners. Never immerse base in water.

Safety Information

UL Listed. For household use only. Keep away from children. Do not operate with damaged cord or plug. Do not use outdoors. Always use fresh, cold water. Replace charcoal filter every 60 days or after 60 uses for best results.
