Installation & Setup

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on a clean, dry, level surface away from edges.

  1. Remove all packaging materials and stickers.
  2. Wash carafe, lid, gold-tone filter, and charcoal filter holder with warm, soapy water. Rinse and dry.
  3. Insert charcoal water filter into holder and soak in water for 15 minutes. Place in water reservoir.
  4. Place gold-tone filter into filter basket.
  5. Plug power cord into a 120V AC outlet.

WARNING! Do not immerse base, cord, or plug in water or other liquids. Ensure hands are dry when handling plug.

First-Time Use

Before first brew, run a cleaning cycle with water only.

  1. Fill water reservoir to MAX line with fresh, cold water.
  2. Ensure gold-tone filter is in place and carafe is positioned correctly.
  3. Press the BREW button. Allow full cycle to complete without coffee grounds.
  4. Discard water from carafe. The unit is now ready for use.

CAUTION! Do not add coffee beans during the cleaning cycle. Ensure carafe is properly seated to avoid leaks.

Controls and Settings

Control Panel: POWER, PROGRAM, HOUR, MIN, BREW STRENGTH, GRIND CONTROL, AUTO OFF, CLOCK.

Buttons: POWER turns unit on/off. PROGRAM sets auto brew time. HOUR/MIN adjust time. BREW STRENGTH toggles between Regular and Bold. GRIND CONTROL dial selects grind size (1 finest - 18 coarsest). AUTO OFF sets shut-off delay (0, 1, 2, 3, 4 hours). CLOCK sets current time.

LCD Display: Shows time, program status, grind setting, brew strength, and auto off setting.

Programming the Timer

Set the unit to grind and brew automatically at a specific time.

  1. Press and hold CLOCK. Use HOUR and MIN to set current time. Release CLOCK.
  2. Press PROGRAM. "PROG" icon will blink.
  3. Use HOUR and MIN to set desired brew time.
  4. Press PROGRAM again to confirm. "PROG" icon will stay lit.
  5. Add whole beans to grinder hopper and water to reservoir.
  6. Ensure unit is ON. It will automatically grind and brew at set time.

Tip: To cancel program, press and hold PROGRAM until "PROG" icon turns off.

Grinding and Brewing

For manual brew (immediate).

  1. Fill water reservoir with cold water to desired cup level (MIN 2 cups, MAX 10 cups).
  2. Add whole coffee beans to grinder hopper (up to 1/2 lb). Do not use ground coffee.
  3. Select grind size using GRIND CONTROL dial (medium grind recommended for first use).
  4. Select brew strength (Regular or Bold).
  5. Place empty carafe on warming plate.
  6. Press BREW button. Grinding will begin, followed by brewing.
  7. When brewing is complete, an audible signal will sound. Coffee will stay warm on plate for up to 4 hours (depending on AUTO OFF setting).

WARNING! Never remove bean hopper or carafe during grinding/brewing cycle. Use only whole beans; ground coffee can damage grinder.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Unplug and cool completely before cleaning.

Daily: Empty and rinse carafe and gold-tone filter. Wipe exterior with damp cloth.

Weekly: Clean grinder by running 1/4 cup uncooked white rice through grind cycle (finest setting). Discard rice. Wipe bean hopper with dry cloth.

Monthly: Descale with vinegar solution: Mix equal parts white vinegar and water. Fill reservoir, run brew cycle without beans. Rinse by running two cycles with fresh water.

Charcoal Filter: Replace every 60 cycles or 2 months for optimal performance.

CAUTION! Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads. Never immerse base in water.

Safety Information

Important safeguards: Use only as intended. Do not operate if cord or plug is damaged. Keep away from children. Do not use outdoors. Unplug when not in use. Do not place on or near hot surfaces.
